How to use DimGenius
The problem
Anyone who plans freight knows the drill. A customer sends a list of items — sometimes neatly tabulated, sometimes buried in an email. You sit down to figure out how many trucks it'll take. Pull out the calculator, eyeball some flatbed dimensions, multiply by quantity, hope you didn't miss something. It works, but it's slow, and small mistakes ripple into bad quotes.
What DimGenius does
DimGenius takes a list of freight items — names, dimensions, weights, quantities — and tells you exactly how many trucks you'll need and which ones, accounting for length, width, height, weight cap, and over-dimensional handling. It supports flatbeds, stepdecks, hotshots, dry vans, box trucks, and sprinter vans. No spreadsheet, no math, no guesswork.
Step 1: Add your items
You can type items in directly — name, quantity, length × width × height, weight per item, locked-orientation flag if it matters.
Or skip the typing. Paste to DimGenius AI lets you drop in a customer email or quote, and our extraction reads the dimensions right out of the text. Got an email like:
Hey — need a rate ASAP from Chicago to LA on:
- (4) Generators, 8' x 4' x 6', 5,000 lbs each
- (2) Lumber bundles, 16' x 1' x 1', 800 lbs each
Paste, click Extract, done. The items show up in the calculator ready to compute.
The AI handles mixed feet/inches notation (1'-3", 12'2"), explicit L/W/H suffixes, and "total" weights split across a quantity — so most real-world freight emails parse cleanly the first try.
Step 2: Calculate
Toggle between Open Deck and Enclosed depending on what you're shipping, then hit Calculate. Results land in seconds.
Step 3: Read the loadout
You'll see the headline result first — something like "1 Flatbed 48" or "3 Flatbed 53s + 1 Flatbed 48". Below that, a per-truck breakdown showing exactly which items go on which trailer, with a visual loadout diagram for each one.
If anything didn't fit (say, a piece exceeds the maximum trailer dimensions), it's called out separately so nothing gets quoted that physically won't load.
Step 4: Download the report
Click Load Diagram to open the full report. From there you can download a PNG or SVG of the loadout — perfect for pasting into a quote, sending to a customer, or screenshotting into iMessage with a driver. Light theme or dark theme, your choice.
Step 5: Save and revisit
Every calculation is automatically saved under My Shipments so you can come back, recalculate with a tweak, or pull up a quote you ran last week. Recalculating from a saved shipment is one click.
